SKATE SCHOOL

What to Expect

Our Class Structure

Our Skate School classes are offered all year-round. Most classes are 30 minutes long and are offered once per week, for a total of eight weeks. Registration for classes opens before the beginning of each eight-week block.

  • Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled class time. This will give you ample time to check in and lace up your skates before class begins.

  • Skaters are not required to have any prior experience or knowledge of skating in order to enroll in our beginning-level courses.

  • All beginning-level skaters will meet their instructor off the ice at the beginning of class for the first two weeks.

  • Helmets are recommended for beginning-level skaters, but are not required.

  • Dress warmly, in several light layers that can easily be removed as you get moving.

  • Don't forget to bring your gloves and socks! (And make sure your socks are crew length - ankle socks can cause blisters!)

What should I expect on my first day?
How do I know if I'm ready for the next class?

Typically, a skater is able to master all required elements in a level within one or two 8-week blocks. Upon demonstrating skill proficiency of all required elements, skaters are eligible to enroll in the next level.

Skills taught in each level build directly upon competencies developed in the previous level. Therefore, skaters must demonstrate a full mastery of each element before they are eligible for the next level.

Each skater will receive a written progress report from their instructor at the midway point of each block. On the last day of class, your coach will provide you with a certificate and report card that will list your coach's recommendation for the next block.

Miscellaneous Information
  • Skaters who miss a class are eligible to make up a class, provided that another section is offered on a different day/time. All make-up lessons must be completed before the end of the block. Learn more about our make-up policy [here].

  • Classes may be combined, rescheduled, or cancelled based on enrollment numbers.

  • Parents are not allowed on the ice unless they are also registered for Skate School classes. Parents are welcome to view classes from the bleachers or in the lobby, but for safety reasons must refrain from standing in the doorways or along the left side of the rink.
